We’re all suffering through difficult times that we did not anticipate and challenges that we were not prepared for. In the face of all that’s going on in the world, how do we survive? How do we push through the muck of current events and continue showing up for the people who need us most?
The answer to many of these questions lies in our capacity for resilience: the ability to bend in the face of a challenge and then bounce back. COIVD19 And The Race To Organizational Resilience
This year has been filled with unexpected challenges and trauma; however, I have maintained my hope by anchoring my commitment to change in a quote by author Arundhati Roy from her March 2019 Financial Times article. In her writing, she positions the pandemic as a portal and shares, “Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.”
And while it’s true that a portal does represent an end of times – it is also a beginning.
In the U.S. social sector, the landscape is shifting – philanthropic priorities are changing, donors and staff are struggling with crisis fatigue, and the ways we used to work feel miles away in a world that no longer exists.
