‘Rope in psychologists during disaster relief operations’
The service of psychologists should be utilised during national calamities to deal with post-traumatic stress among victims, said P. Kolandaivel, Vice-Chancellor, Periyar University.
Speaking at the inaugural of the two-day national workshop on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, organised by the Department of Psychology of Periyar University here recently, Mr. Kolandaivel said that material help during emergencies like recent floods in Kerala provided immediate relief. For long-term sustained development, the society must use psychological therapies.

Federal officials warn public to be wary of disaster fraud

Federal officials are warning residents to be wary of fraud, including fake charities claiming to aid fire victims, in the wake of the Mendocino Complex fires.
The FBI and U.S. Attorney Alex Tse advised Northern California residents to immediately report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. They also urged residents to “apply a critical eye” to anyone “purporting to be working on behalf of disaster victims,” especially if the person is seeking personal or financial information.
