Over 600 Killed In Natural Disasters In China In July

Over 600 people were killed in China last month due to floods, typhoons and a range of geological disasters which also caused an economic loss of USD 35 billion, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said today.  Over 1.87 million houses across China were damaged or destroyed in last month’s natural disasters.  Natural disasters have caused 233.1 billion yuan (about USD 35 billion) in total direct economic losses, affecting nearly 7.3 million hectares of farmland, with more than 1.5 million hectares yielding no crops…

Five named storms have already formed in 2016, with Hurricane Earl making landfall last Thursday in Belize. Massive thunderstorms caused extensive damage and death tolls have risen to over 40 people. With September usually a peak month of tropical activity, it is crucial that the U.S. promptly delivers disaster relief when and where it is needed.  Forecasters are now watching the northern Gulf of Mexico near the Florida Panhandle as there is a chance a storm may be brewing closer to home. Ten more named storms, including six hurricanes, are predicted to form during the remainder of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season….
