Lessons Learned From TC Winston

To explore how Fiji’s National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) responded to Tropical Cyclone Winston and what could be improved upon for next time, it is holding a series of workshops that began yesterday. The teams responsible within the NDMO for preparation, response and recovery were present at the workshop at Kshatriya Hall in Labasa along with the community representatives, non-government organisations and community members affected by Cyclone Winston. The workshop to be held over the next six weeks has been funded by European Union through its $45 million, ACP-EU Building Safety and Resilience in the Pacific Project (BSRP) implemented by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC). Seine River peaks in Paris, top museums stay shut for days


The Seine River peaked early Saturday around Paris, hitting its highest level in nearly 35 years — almost 4.5 meters (15 feet) above average — then began a slow descent. That drew a collective sigh of relief but authorities cautioned it could take up to 10 days for the river to return to normal…
