President Benigno Aquino III left for Paris, France Sunday morning to attend the historic 21st Conference of Parties (COP 21) where he will lead the meeting of developing countries most vulnerable to feel the effects of climate change. Speaking to reporters before his departure at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the President said the upcoming climate talks in Paris presents a good chance for world leaders to take collective action after failing to reach a consensus at the 2009 climate change conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. “Noon nga pong 2009, nagkaroon ng pagsisikap sa Copenhagen, Denmark na itaguyod ang makatarungang obligasyon ng mga bansa sa pagbabawas ng kanilang greenhouse gas emissions. Nabigo pong makabuo ng consensus sa naturang kumperensya. Magandang pagkakataon po ang mga pagtitipon sa Paris upang muling humakbang at idiin ang halaga ng pagkakaisa ukol sa climate change,” he said. Natural Disasters Major Cause of Human Loss in Last 2 Decades: UN Report

90% of all major disasters have been caused due to weather disturbances, according to a 30-page United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) report.
