(NEW YORK) A federal judge’s decision will produce radical and life-saving changes in the way New York responds to natural disasters, according to local advocates. Federal Judge Jesse Furman on Tuesday accepted a settlement agreement that mandates big changes in the way New York City responds to natural disasters. Christine Chuang, senior staff attorney for Disability Rights Advocates, said the biggest change will ensure that New Yorkers with disabilities know where to flee in a disaster. “This agreement constitutes one of the most comprehensive emergency plans in the country,” she said. “By the end of September 2017, the city is going to have a minimum of 60 accessible emergency shelters.”..

Insurer Asks FAA To OK Drone Use For Natural Disasters

Law360, San Diego (October 03, 2014, 3:55 PM ET) — Insurance company United Services Automobile Association asked the Federal Aviation Administration on Thursday to let it fly drones at a Texas test site, saying it eventually wants to use the unmanned aircraft to speed up its claim response time after natural disasters. The USAA’s petition joins dozens of requests to the FAA to fly drones and comes a week after the agency granted its first exemptions, to six film production companies seeking to use drones for aerial photography on movie and television sets…
